The Naming Of Tarts (parody)

Today we have the naming of tarts.
Tomorrow comes the cleaning up,
But today we name and throw tarts
In this terrible war.

This is the pear tart which is
firm and hard and fit for hurting.
This is the apple tart. A little
softer and if warm is of great threat.

Then there’s the blood red tarts.
The raspberry and the strawberry.
These frighten more by their colour,
than their ability to kill.

The last two are of nuts and of marcipan.
The first is deadly with its shrapnel-like pieces.
The latter is smooth, but can remove the enemies
sight. Today we have the naming of tarts.

  1. Oh that kind of tarts (vaguely disappointed...)!

The interplay between two voices is not really there in your version - but it's a fun text, nonetheless...

  2. It's humorous, but I think it lacks depth. I know parody's are intended to simply jab, however, it is always more effective to jab with more gusto behind the 'thrust.' In all honestly, when the poem ends it feels like it is just beginning. It doesn't seem like it is over but I can't exactly put my finger on what it's missing. Perhaps it is the interplay of two voices as Bent said.
