BANGKOK

It was a starry night and I was cooking duck with yellow potatoes as I do every Friday. This time I had prepared a delicious sauce made of green and purple onions I took from my orchard. The little sparrows had already gone to sleep and I could hear the owl sounds. Saturn was in the kitchen waiting for me to go for a walk as usual. When we came back, Saturn drank a bit of water before going to sleep and I put on my glasses, I was ready to start the Thomas Jefferson’s biography. This book was a present my sister gave me for my last birthday. She thinks I am always reading Science Fiction; my last book was The War of the Worlds.

The following morning my adventure started. I had decided to change my life because I was tired of doing always the same things. Waking up at 7am, taking a shower, having breakfast, going to work, having lunch, coming back home, cooking dinner, Saturn’s walk, reading and going to sleep.

I arrived Bangkok after a long trip. A child who was arguing with his mother didn’t let me sleep in the plane. He was shouting to her all the time: “I’m 5, I’m not a child!” It was so annoying... I was feeling like smoking, but there was a sign in the plane which said “smoking prohibited”, I was going crazy...but it did not matter, I was in Bangkok at least. Finally I was in the hotel unpacking my suitcase, I was ready to sleep all the night.

A new stage had started in my life. The streets were full of people, maybe because of the sales. The day was warm and I decided to go to a bar which had a sign saying “The best beer here”. The barman told me:

-“Are you new in the city?”

-“Yes, I arrived yesterday” I replied

-“There will be a party tomorrow in Boulevarden, you are invited”

-“Thank you, I will be there. See you”

I was so excited, it was my first party. I followed the sign which said “Exit” to go out to the street. While I was coming back to the hotel, I saw a man selling tools (screws, hand drills, monkey wrenches etc) and he tried to sell me a Bruni. For sure, I didn’t buy anything.

I left my bike in the parking. Music could be heard from the street. I really enjoyed that night. I drank a Carlsberg and a martini. I met some nice people. I heard the typical conversations of women who use Astor as a lipstick:

-“I was wondering something...I am not sure, but it seems like they are together”

-“ I think so. Yes, maybe they are going out.”

It was a great party. I realised I wanted to live more experiences in that country, it was going to be exciting!

  1. Nicely done, although I was surprised to find a street called Boulevarden in Bangkok!
I liked this sentence the best: "I heard the typical conversations of women who use Astor as a lipstick" - would have been nice to hear the narrator use that tone a bit more, to step into character...

  2. Yes, it's true! The narrator could have used this tone a bit more, but I think in this working game we were more focused on using all the "ingredients" of our list...
