Writing Game - Author Function

Author Function: Hypothetical Author
Abstract Notion: Identity

I would guess that we can never be sure about our true identity. If there is a one thing people are always hypothetical, it is themselves. Would I be different if I would have born into a totally different family? How would I be different? Is it defined from the start what kind of people we become or is it due to the people we met and what happens in our lives? If I would not have done that one mistake would I be happier? If I would have continued my piano lessons would people consider me wiser than they do now?

One can also wonder if there really is such a thing is identity. I am different with different people. Sometimes I feel like there are two people living inside me, but in a mentally stable way though! I question the existence of identity. I have a hypothetical thought that people can be whatever they want and identity is something that other people create from us. What would happen if we would stop listening other people’s opinions about our personality and became whatever we want to be, in every situation?

  1. More of a philosopher you are writing as here. The text is hypothetical in its speculation about ideas, but that is not what the hypothetical author means! (Rather, this is the name a critic gives to an implied authorial voice in a text that the critic feels voices the real flesh-and-blood author's views)
