Author Function: Dramatist - The Conceptualization of Existentialism through Art

ACT II

SCENE V

The Sculptor in his atelier – MIDNIGHT’s voice

Character I – The Sculptor

“ Allright! That’s it … just a little more from here!”

(Gently brushing his sweat off)

“Absolute beauty”. (His eyes slowly moving, analyzing every single inch of her body.)

“Incredible. These features are too beautiful to be considered human.”

“You look like an angel. Perfect ! This is exactly how I wanted you to be.”

“Uh, listen to myself! Standing here, falling in love you! I must be going mad!

Turning around, murmuring to himself

“What a shame… The eyes can only see solid vivaciousness and yet, my hands are roughened by your insensatious ingredients.”

(melancholically)

“As if you care… as If you only listened”

“Maybe you do...who knows! Only I know what I created”

“But you..shall give humanity my knowledge, through you”

“Because I love you”

“What do you know about love? About my love, for you?”

“Well… I guess I know how God felt when he “created” humanity, for that matter”.

(Laughing, as his eyes burst in tears)

“People must think I’m a lunatic… I guess we're all infatuated lunatics”.

( Making his way out of the workshop, the sculptor touched his beloved creation once more.)

  1. This could almost be Fra Pandolf from the previous episode! I like this - you did exactly what the task stipulated, and the sculptor's monologue captures his existential angst and longing for meaning very well!
